  3. My roommate and I have 2 dwarf hamster females. They did very well for a while in the same cage but mine kept attacking my roommates. The scuffles usually ended quickly and didn't leave any injuries until today. We came home and my roommate's was bleeding. We separated them right away; the best we could do was a cardboard divider until we could get another cage. Now that they are separated though, with their own water and food, they are going nuts because they're apart. They have clawed and chewed at the divider nonstop to get to each other. We eventually had to put mine in a tub of her own but she's still acting very agitated. I don't understand how she can hurt the other hamster so bad and then still want to be around her just as much!

  4. I had the same problem as you, person above me. I seperated my dwarfs with a cardboard divider after putting the first bought hamster (I bought them about 2 months apart from eachother, but from the same store) into a 5 gallon bucket over night. She was agitated, too, but my theory was that she remembered that there was another hamster on her turf, and she wanted it back.the new one, Salt, didn't seem to have a problem when I put a cardboard wall inbetween the two hamsters(I have a 10gallon tank, so this worked well), but Pepper, my first, chewed through almost the entire wall in one night. There's where my first theory comes into play again. My dad and I finally bought some fine wire mesh to put in place of the cardboard, and I switch sides with them every night (we read this helps them get used to eachothers scent). They will have been seperated 3 weeks on Sunday, but I don't know if they'll ever be able to get used to each other-just today, I found blood on Salts back foot, I imagine it got a little bit too far on Peppers side of the tank. Any advice on how you got your hamsters in quistion to get along would be great!!

  6. i have two male hamsters and i put them in different cages because my mum said that if you put them in the same cage they will fight if they are male and male female and female and male and female so never put them in the same cage there names are alvin and fang fang is my brothers and alvin is my hamster we can now put alvin on my mums hand my nans hand my brothers hand and my hand if you put them in your hand they will get really carm with you so try and put them in your hand alvin (my hamster) escaped and went on the floor then my mum got him and found him and we put alvin on the bed and it was so cute fang doesnt let us do anything with him just strok him and pick him up and we have to put the ball next to his cage door and he will smell it and go into it and alvin has the smallest cage and fang has the biggest cage alvin is the biggest and fang is the smallest so that is why we canb put alvin on our hands and not fang and we never ever put them together sothey never ever fight.
that is my ifomation about my hamsters

  8. I have 2 female hamsters they are actually mother And daughter they live in a fairly large cage And all they do now is fight with each other. Its the baby hamster who is 3 months old now that keeps attacking the mom. Is there anything I can do to get them friendly again. Mom is scared and shaky when we hold her. I feel so bad.

  11. We bought our Dwarf Cambell red-eyed male hamster(Fred) one month prior to our female Dwarf Cambell red-eyed(Mazie). We had to keep them separated with little contact for a few days until Mazie got used to Fred. Females go into heat every 4 days so eventually Mazie got prenant. On 2/15/12 Mazie gave birth to 7 pups! (are prenant for 16 - 18 days, other breeds no longer than 16 days). The male Cambell's help the mothers through birthing and in raising the pups. They are the only breed to do this, but because Mazie goes into heat every 4 days we could not let Fred be with her. We bought her her own cage and she nursed the pups for exactly 4 weeks. At 5 weeks we separated the males and females. Fred did fine with the males in his cage, but Mazie could not handle the females. She was really mean to all of them especially the smallest female so I gave her to my cousin. Apparently Mazie was being too mean to the others as well, because tonight we found her half eaten :( We think the two females left in the cage got her when she was sleeping. The female pups started fighting with Mazie when they were only 6 weeks old. Today the pups are 9 weeks old and their mother is gone. So SAD! The males hardly ever fight, but the littlest male is headed to another cousin in the morning. I couldn't bare to see my Fred get hurt. For now on it is one female to a cage, but two males to a cage so far is fine. When I read up on Hamsters, the only time Cambells ate one another was a mother hamster eating her babies if she felt they were being threatened. And Mazie was such a great mother! But sadly only up until she stopped nursing them at 4 weeks. She had her two favorites that she slept with, but in the end those were the two who killed her :( Parents if you are going to get a hamster, please, please do not feel bad to only have one. It is safer and it does not matter if it is male or female all though males are tamer and less likely to bite in my opinion. (check with your local stores, some carry only male some carry only female. Occassionally they make a mistake)(To check on you own, males look like they have a second belly button above the genetals). That is why there is so many fun things to purchase for your hamster, they will never be bored! Domesticated hamsters usually live for 2 years, but some have lived as long as 4 so they are great starter pets, especially if your kid is asking for a cat or dog. And if your child is young, you can buy another hamster and replace the one that past away and they will never know. Our kids think that Mazie ran away, but I will have to tell them the truth after I get rid of the other females. Now that they have tasted blood, I do not want to risk them biting my kids. Good luck to everyone, hopefully I answered something for all. One more thing, hamsters can sense if you are nervous and this will make them nervous and bit more. First they will put up their two front paws and push at you with a squeak as a warning, ours females just bit. You should handle your hamsters daily females more if possible to keep them tame. All this information came from pamplets from my pet store and online. Again good luck and enjoy your hamsters!

  12. Sorry, I meant to say that the Dwarf Cambell females are pregnant 18 - 21 days and all others are 16 - 18 days. Mazie was pregnant for 21 days.

  13. My 2 dwarf hamster sisters lived peacefully together in the same cage for a year and 2 months. Recently they fought each other and one of them was bleeding. It was unexpected because they always cuddled and got along with each other. I had to separate them right away or else the other one might've killed the her sister. You never know when dwarf hamsters living together are going to turn on each other. Separate them right away if you see hamster fighting with each other. I feel sad because I want to put them back in the same cage because one of them looks lonely now, but I can predict what they might do next, so I have to keep them separate from now on. However, One of the hamsters enjoys living by herself now.

  14. My two dwarf hamsters started fighting after 6 months together. Well one started picking on the other. I separated them and now they are both happy. I couldn't bear the thought of one being hurt, and now the kids have one in each room!
